Just bought a Curt hitch for my 2013 Outback and a Thule bike rack from a friend. His wife who also has a ‘13 OB got them for her birthday a few months ago but couldn’t install because a body shop welded caps on their frame rails when repairing some rear-end collision damage a while back. I have roof rack bike carriers, but I’m pretty excited about this - should be a lot easier to load and if I get home late with bikes I can just pull right into the garage instead of trying to get bikes off the roof in the dark. Now I’ve just got to get a hitch for my Forester to so I can use the rack with both cars. Oh and install the Outback hitch first :P

The OEM hitch is a 1.25", I wish I would have done it myself and installed a 2".

I like the integrated look of the OEM but 1.25 and the rediculous price made it a no-go for me.

I think dealer cost was $600, I got it down to $300 or less when I bought the car.

That’s the hitch I installed on mine! It will stand up to my 180lbs jumping on the end of a Thule tray style rack. It will also not complain about a North Shore rack with 5 mountain bikes on it. Forget the OEM one, that’s the way to go!
Unfortunately in certain off-road and driveway situations, the exhaust hangar near the muffler hits the hitch and makes a lot of unwanted noise.
